So life in the department store is going well. Essentially I am part of the end of the product delivery line aka un boxing whereas my last job in the UK was boxing up prior to shipment, so it's interesting to see what work is like at the other end of the system. My job covers: unboxing and presentation of stock (footwear) and customer assistance... Standard enough you may think but I've had a few 'language barrier' moments as Ozzie's use different names for certain foot attire (as well as different shoe sizing). One such instance was when customer asked where the 'gumboots' which totally had me blank faced until the brain cogs clicked together (I guess Lord Wellington didn't have much influence over here). Also figuring in the weird word category (but not in shoes) are 'chooks', which are the Ozzie version of our feathered poultry friends... So following this pattern of logic I'd assume that the novelty item mentioned in my title would be known as a gummy chook here... It's a strange place.
So yea work goes well and football goes better, well maybe that's not entirely right, as I'm still trying to break into the centre-midfield mentality (as opposed to my prior striker role I have become used to over the past couple of years) so I've (and the rest of the team) been given handouts by the coach for homework to improve our game. I must admit this certainly makes a nice change from academic paperwork and it give a good excuse to watch football games to study my position... If only all studies could be done over a drink down the local pub watching the tv!
So that's my life at the moment, still delving into science, though not as a tutor as my job fills up my weekdays now, but reading a book[1] that's compiles scientific, mathematic and archeological research to show how the 'theory of evolution' isn't all that well supported, which is certainly engaging the cranium!
Pi anyone? (couldnt resist a geeky pun)
P.s. sorry for the lack of photos, my camera has been somewhat neglected due to my recent reversion to my standard life of work and football, which kind of makes me forget I'm on another continent. I will try to seek out opportunities to show that I am indeed still in Oz.
