Dude. Happy 2012 everyone! So my weekend, well finally got used to being upside down/over jet lag on Saturday, but then a late night celebrating New Year’s Eve in a city club made Sunday a day experienced in the horizontal plane (bean bag lounging mainly). The club was alright, nothing special, but prior to that we went to the beach to watch the sunset on Australia, which was the same beach I saw 2010 out, it’s becoming an expensive habit, not that I’m complaining! We took champers, cheese and crackers, and it seemed many others had the same idea so the beach was quite busy and created a nice celebratory atmosphere.
Though shark wary, there was no way I was going to be staying away from the ocean, so this morning Jon, Nick, Christian and Leo and I headed to catch some waves with the bodyboards. I have tried it before but Nick gave me some helpful pointers about wave sets (3/5 waves per set, ascending in size) and like to ‘‘avoid sharks’’… jokes… the lifeguards in kayaks were watching out for them. So yea the waves were pretty mellow (not huge) so perfect for me to start on. However, now my arms have turned shiny from the board-foam contact, so are sticking a bit to the table whilst I write this. Nice.
All this shark hype but the right now I’m more scared of the spiders. A white tip or red tip = very ill (kills skin around bite), black ones= okay and the bigger they are the safer. It’s totally not cool that the smaller ones which are harder to spot are worse for you! Frankly I am checking my bed/clothes/everywhere I go at the moment, talk about paranoia, but its just such a crazy change from the UK where your are only in danger from wild life if you go out of your way to aggravate it… nothing about cow tipping being said *cough*… and needless to mention, stay away from the tiger and black snakes too as they will kill you in 20 minutes, but like I’ve ever have the urge to pet one anyway.
Weather wise it’s varied from 28-38’C, which is alright I suppose, but makes playing footy outdoors a challenge. Need to enquire about the ladies 5-aside league round the corner though I hear they are very athletic, but I guess I can be the Berbatov (laidback United striker) of women’s footy. Game on.
Cauko guys.
you used the word "mellow" you have changed ...
