Shoetopia

Ironically the word of the past two weeks and ironically it was far from a personal ecstatic shoe experience. Let me explain. So work has been gearing up for a massive promotion of shoe department, internally termed as ‘shoetopia’. We are not thinking small scale here, it involves a rearrangement of the shoe department as well a whole lot of new shoes arriving that are begging to be displayed but room is lacking. Answer = build more display units and spread them into the other departments.  Needless to say my work will be cut out for the next few weeks but I'm getting a helping hand from other staff members and they’ve given me a pair of their shoes to wear as part of the promotion… and before any of you guys begin to have funny ideas that they have given me some ankle-breaking high pink stilettos, be realistic I have to be able to actually do my work in them, so they are your average black work shoes. Sorry to disappoint.

So yea apologies that the blog hasn’t been updated for the past 2 weeks; I have struggled to find the time. So what’s been happening in my ‘busy’ life? Well I got to visit Bells Rapids yesterday, a place out in Swan Valley where as you may have guessed are some rapids! Yup a river, and over this weekend there was a kayaking event called Avon Descent where some brave or fool hardy people tackle the water… only this year the rainfall hasn’t been up to much so the river wasn’t up to its usual fury but we still saw a few guys out doing battle. This was only part of the reason Leo and I decided to head up that way, our primary intentions was photography. The area around the river is as lush as it gets vegetation wise in Perth typical of the bush-land that is renowned of Australia; dirt, low shrubs and wiry thickets of trees adorned with the local weird and wonderfully coloured flying creatures (thankfully didn’t have cross paths with any of the infamous creatures of the earth).

Any trip to Swan Valley region can’t go without a trip to the chocolate factory which scales the top of the sweetness chart, and we also threw in an ice-cream stop where spurred by the spirit of our adventure I tried a ginger flavour… which tasted rather nice actually, but then I am a fan of ginger laced edibles.

Staying with the sweet tooth, I have somewhat surprised myself when I realised that I have rather become accustomed to the taste of Australian chocolate, so much so that when I tried some Galaxy import, my taste buds held a protest! Rather shocking. In light of this I feared the same fate for the bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk that I was recently sent by a fellow compatriot in confectionary Becca (anyone else feeling generous?), but it turned out that Cadburys never disappoints even after 7 months apart. Somewhat amusedly, the taste of Cadburys reminded me of Christmas, not too surprising though as that was actually the last time I think I had the UK variety.

Remaining with thoughts of the UK, ‘the Olympics’, dare I say it as I fear that the name has been repeated too much, like an overplayed song, to the British public ear and the word now has bitter feelings attached to it… or is that just by the London locals who have had to navigate around the ‘Olympic traffic lanes’ much to their consternation. I say this as my sister who has recently moved to the capital commented that a journey across the centre took significantly longer than expected. I personally have only caught glimpses of athletes lifting ridiculous weights or smashing balls over nets from the TV channel promoting their brand in the shopping centre where I work or the occasional glance at the BBC sport website to see how the medals are tallying and scan the latest newsflashes. So I’m probably one of the few Brits who have not been consumed by the games, though like everyone else I am keenly waiting for the 100 metres finals!

Football wise, in 11-aside our opposition forfeited the game last week and we a bye this week so lacking in thrilling stories to tell you there, but this week is the semis for the 5-aside football and I’ve somehow ended up in 2 games, as another team has been lacking players since two of theirs have had to pull out through injury/university commitments. Thankfully though the teams are in 2 different leagues so I won’t have a predicament if both of my teams win.

Cool hopefully this posts makes up in length for the blogging I’ve missed and I’ll post another with pictures of my recent escapades, which will tally 2 blogs and I’m back up to date.

Wins all round.
