Another two weeks have whizzed by and winter seems to be ‘thawing’ as the thought of going for a jog today after a huge sugar rush from a homemade* rocky road was knocked down as the sun was particularly intense, so I settled for lounging in the garden and being assaulted by an hyperactive puppy. Actually there was another (better) excuse for not going jogging as my ankle was sore from a month long injury that has left a lump on my ankle (the doctor diagnosed it as a haematoma) and Thursday’s 5 aside soccer game kind of aggravated it so it’s been a tad uncomfortable to walk on. On the plus side we won our game and were crowned Division 2A champions finishing with an intense 4-3 score line. So the pain was kind of worth it.
Not that I want you to think it’s always sunny here, last weekend my 11-a-side game was abandoned at halftime due to a rainstorm that turned our game into an unintentional swamp-soccer match (yes it’s an actual sport). Needless to say we were all wet through to the point you feel the water sloshing around your boots… nice! And as if a cruel joke the rain came back for a second round of soaking as we were about to end our training session.
Last weekend I was drawn to the bright-lights of the city… to photograph them. Leo and I went to King’s park where I previously took the classic day-shot of Perth (see the ‘Americano’ post), so now I have the complimentary night view. Looking down on the city I think the urge to belt out ‘Empire State of Mind’ fleeted through my mind but I resisted as we were not the only people enjoying the view. We also dropped to the south bank of the river to catch the light reflections on the river from a nearby pier. I'm glad I got this opportunity as the city looked pretty stunning all lit up... Not so clever me changed the photo storage settings to RAW instead of JPEG and I don't have the computer software to view RAW files. Fail. However Leo captured Perth city perfectly through a panoramic shot, so you lucky guys get to see his handiwork.
I also had the opportunity to check out Yanchep National Park, which could have easily been chosen as a setting for the classic Jurassic Park film-set as it looked rather pre-historic as we traversed around the lake through the jungle like growth. The noticeable difference was that there was a wedding being held on one side of the lake, which I can’t imagine happening if there was a T-Rex on the rampage. However we did come upon K-Roos and bears!... of the Koala variety, which didn’t seem keen to go on a rampage anytime soon, so only attack the wedding contingency may have faced was from a wedding dress wearing Godzilla ( more 'affectionaly' known by the blog title) but I lived to see another day.
Selamat Malam! (Malay)
* ‘Homemade’ rocky-road being: marshmallows + melted Ozzie Cadbury’s Black Forest (cherry and cookie pieces) chocolate bar (you get so many different flavours of Cadbury’s chocolate out here!).
