Just Jeans

You know that awkward moment when you go to use the charger to plug in your book… nope, just me then. In my defence, my mind was elsewhere. Anyway onwards.

There has been a recent outbreak of jeans, a strange statement you may think but my interpretation is that autumn is finally here for Australia. (Title: Just Jeans is a shop, no bonus points for guessing what it sells). So the locals think it’s the right time to wear full length garments. For me it still feels like a good summer’s day by English standards. I note that British Summer Time has officially kicked off for you back home and that puts you 7 hours behind Perth now. Western Australia does not partake in daylight saving time, they did a trial between 2006-2009 and when they held a referendum on whether it should be made permanent, it was a majority NO. Glancing over the reasons the ‘NO vote’ put forward, I have included some of them below:
1.     It seemed to be disadvantageous for trade with Asia as Perth is in the same time zone as Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Beijing,
2.     Cost of running the air-con in the houses will be higher as will have to leave it on longer in the evening,
…but the best reason I liked was:
3.     ‘The best hours for beach use in the summer is before work, and sadly Daylight Saving steals this from us’

So for those who dislike that an hour of your sleep was taken from you last Sunday I highly doubt you’d be taken seriously if you tried to argue against the use of DST in the UK using number 3. For the full list of YES and NO reasons see the link at the end [1].

Ok so past weekend I got to try out jet skiing! Those who know me will easily realise that this I would take this opportunity to its limit…the jet ski’s top speed limit, you wouldn’t be wrong. This happened down at Mandurah, which is an hour’s drive south of Perth, so afterwards we took a look around the area. It’s a strange town in itself, in that it’s actually an island with a bridge at each end connecting it to the mainland, estuary on one side, ocean on the other. Driving to the main shopping area, we passed a housing estate with a difference, the front of the houses had your normal car parking space and the back had your boat parking space… Yes you read that right, the houses backed onto a canal network that linked up with the main river (yours for £1 million, according to window advertisements in one Estate Agent shop).

In the river, there was an inflatable water park that was a mock of the Total Wipeout, tempting indeed, but unfortunately not the right time, instead I occupied myself with my camera and the local wildlife/riverside scenery, so here's some pictures, and on that note, as they would say in Fiji, ''Moce''.

P.s. Happy Birthday to my Little sister, Hannah
